How Much Dry Ice to Use for Dry Ice Blasting
Dry ice pellet usage is measured in pounds per minute or ppm for blast cleaning.

  • Dry ice blasting machines vary by model, but dry ice usage can be less than 1 pound per minute (ppm) or as high as 7 ppm.
  • Typically 2.5 - 3.5 pounds of dry ice is used per minute of dry ice blast time.
  • A good rule of thumb is to order 1,000 pounds of blasting ice per 8-hour shift.
  • At 3 pounds per minute (ppm), 1,000 pounds provides 5.5 hours of uninterrupted blasting.
