Uses For Dry Ice Blasting in the Electrical Industry
Return to Uses of Dry Ice Blasting
  Electrical
  Electric Motors

Dry ice pellet cleaning of motors lets the equipment stay in place. With dry ice blasting, you eliminate the dirt while eliminating the vats of solvent, labor-consuming disassembly, moving heavy apparatus to the cleaning area, laborious cleaning with the possibility of insulation damage by hand tools during cleaning, drying time from organic solvents or water from a pressure washer or steam jet, and cleanup of the dirty solvent or water. Dry ice blast cleaning does not damage insulation on the windings, while removing dirt, oil and carbon residue that may cause arcing or heat buildup.

  Generators

Dry ice blasting cleans electrical generating equipment to maintain reliable operation. Dirty electrical apparatus will overheat and be prone to arc-over's. Downtime for cleaning means lower plant productivity. Dry ice blasting also allows the units to be cleaned in place without damage to cables and insulation, and no explosive solvents.

  Turbines

Dry ice blast cleaning is perfect for turbines. The turbine blades range in progressive sizes, and are precision machine. Dry ice blast cleaning allows small areas to be cleaned of built up deposits and other foreign material without damaging or distorting the blades.

  Electronics
  Small Components

Dry ice blast cleaning of small electronic components is simple, safe and fast. Dry ice cleaning does not require solvents to remove and residue surface material from the components as they move along the assemble line, and there is no damage to their plated surfaces. Dry ice blast cleaning will also remove masking wax used in specialized plating processes.

  Insulators and switches

With very dry compressed air and "hot stick" dry ice blasting nozzles, you can clean energized switchgear carrying voltages well into the kilovolt range, while it is energized. Arc-over-causing dirt is removed with no downtime to the energized apparatus. Dirt-laden cable trays can be cleaned by dry ice blasting without worrying about solvent fallout or cable damage from cleaning tools.

  Cable ways & Trays

Dry ice blast cleaning is the simplest and time effective method of cleaning cable trays and ways. The dry ice blast removes accumulated dirt, grit and other foreign materials without damaging the insulation or shielding on the cables.
